Shiny Pebble: “A Different Christmas Poem”

These past few weeks have been so hectic that I’m really, really happy to be back blogging now. I feel as though I’ve come out of a furious storm and into a warm and welcoming home. It’s a cliché, I know, but that’s because it captures a universal human experience so perfectly.

Before I get anything posted of my own, I would really love for you to read a poem about Christmas and the Military that’s been all over the Internet since it was written in 2000, but which I just read for the first time, and so I suspect that there are a lot of people who’ve never come into contact with it.

Please go read it, Go experience its power. I found its message so moving and so wonderful that reading it was a profound experience.

It’s called “A Different Christmas Poem” and “A Soldier’s Christmas”, and probably other names too. It was written by Michael Marks, who wrote at his original posting of the poem:

I was thinking about our servicemen overseas this Holiday Season and wrote the following in hope of bringing a small bit of Christmas cheer to active duty and veterans alike ... just a humble thanks and "God Bless." Please feel free to pass it along or post it as you see fit. Thank you.
Happy Holidays, Michael Marks December 7th, 2000
